Privacy policy
Effective October 2026. Desperate or Not is run by Tryline, LLC ("we"), tryline.vc. Questions and requests: doug@tryline.vc.
The short version
- No AI model trains on your calls, and we don't sell or rent them.
- Recordings never leave our server. We delete the audio when transcription finishes.
- One outside AI company, Anthropic, receives transcript text, and only after we've swapped names, companies, contact details and dollar amounts for placeholders.
- We delete your transcript 60 minutes after scoring unless you tick the box to keep it for 30 days.
- We collect your name, email, company and funding stage, and we may contact you. This is how the service pays for itself.
- You can delete a call and its report yourself from the results page, at any time.
1. What we collect
The call you upload. A recording or a transcript, including what your prospect said. For recordings we also measure loudness and pitch so the score can account for tone of voice.
Speaker details you enter. Names, which side each person is on, and optionally company and title. We use them to relabel the transcript, and we remember the names of your own team so you don't retype them.
Your contact and company details. Name, email, company, funding stage and the range your company has raised, which we ask for before showing a score. You get your score whatever you answer.
Your results. The score, the points for each criterion, and the short quotes that justify them.
One cookie. It remembers you so a second upload skips the contact form. We use no advertising or tracking cookies.
2. What happens to a call, step by step
- Transcription. A speech model running on our own server turns a recording into text and separates the voices. The audio isn't sent to any outside transcription or AI service.
- Speaker labels. You confirm who is who. For recordings we play you a clip of up to 8 seconds per speaker; we delete those clips when you confirm.
- Redaction. Software on our server replaces the following with placeholders such as "Prospect 1" or "Company A": every speaker name and company you entered, any extra names you list, email addresses, phone numbers, web addresses and dollar amounts. The key that maps placeholders back to real names exists only in our server's memory while your call is scored.
- Scoring. The redacted text goes to Anthropic's API, which returns a grade for each criterion. Your name, email, company and funding details from the contact form are never part of this step.
- Report. Our server puts the real names back and builds your report. Every quote in it is copied from your own transcript.
3. The limits of redaction
Redaction removes the identifiers listed above. It doesn't change the substance of the conversation: what problem the prospect described, what was demonstrated, what was agreed. It can also miss an identifier it has no way to recognise, such as a product or customer name mentioned in passing that you didn't list. If a call contains something that must not reach a third party even in redacted form, list it in the "names to hide" box or don't upload that call.
4. Who else touches your data
| Company | What it receives | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Anthropic, PBC | Redacted transcript text. No audio, no contact details. | Scoring. We use Anthropic's commercial API, whose terms bar Anthropic from training its models on what we send. Anthropic may keep the text for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring before deleting it. |
| Render | Everything we store, on servers it hosts for us. | Hosting. |
| Google (Gmail) | Your name, email address and the summary email with your score. | Sending your results. |
That is the complete list. If we add or change a company on it, we'll update this page before the change takes effect and email everyone who has an account with us.
5. What we never do
We don't use your calls to train or fine-tune any AI model, ours or anyone else's. We don't sell, rent or trade your calls, transcripts, scores or contact details. We don't contact your prospects. Our staff don't read transcripts except to fix a problem you've asked us to look at.
6. How long we keep things
| Item | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Full recording | Deleted as soon as transcription finishes. |
| Voice clips for speaker labeling | Deleted when you confirm the speakers. |
| Transcript | 60 minutes after scoring, so you can correct labels and download the relabeled copy. 30 days if you ticked the box to keep it. |
| Quotes shown in your report | 30 days, then removed. The scores stay. |
| Uploads you start and abandon | 24 hours. |
| Scores, and your name, email, company and funding details | Until you ask us to delete them. |
Our server logs record that an upload happened and whether it succeeded. They never contain the content of a call.
7. How we use your contact details
We send you your results, and Tryline, LLC may contact you about them and about related services. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also opt out by writing to doug@tryline.vc.
8. Your responsibilities when you upload
A call contains other people's words and voices. By uploading, you confirm that you're allowed to share it with us for this purpose: that the recording was made lawfully, with whatever consent the law requires where the participants were located, and that sharing it doesn't break a confidentiality agreement you've signed. Don't upload any call that's covered by an NDA. If you aren't sure, don't upload it.
9. Your choices
The results page has a button that deletes a call, its transcript and its report immediately. To delete your contact details, or to get a copy of what we hold about you, write to doug@tryline.vc and we'll act within 30 days. Depending on where you live, the law may give you further rights over your personal information, and we'll honor them.
If you were a participant on a call that someone else uploaded and want it removed, write to the same address.
10. Security
Connections to this site are encrypted. Each upload gets a private link that can't be guessed. No system is perfectly secure, which is the main reason we keep so little for so short a time.
11. Changes
If we change this policy in a way that affects how your calls are handled, we'll post the new version here with a new date before it applies, and calls you've already uploaded stay under the policy you agreed to.
